Pilot Boat no 23 to Denmark

Docksta, Sweden, May 20, 2006: The twenty-third Pilot Boat from
Dockstavarvet to Denmark was delivered on 18th May 2006. The new
vessel, named VEGA, was taken over at the Nordhavn A/S facilities, in
the port of Aarhus. VEGA will be stationed in Spodsbjerg at the
southern entrance of the Great Belt narrows.
VEGA is the 16th boat of the 14 metre type. It measures 13.9 x 4.6m
with a hull in aluminium and a resiliently mounted GRP sandwich
deckhouse with seating for up to 6 pilots in addition to the coxswain.
VEGA is the first unit delivered with the new Scania 16 litre engines
combined with Twin Disc Quick Shift gears and electronic control
system. With a heavy duty rating of 400 kW this drive line give a
sprint speed of 23 knots and very smooth manoeuvring. The noise level
in the wheelhouse is extremely low, well below the stipulated 65 db(A).
Furuno has delivered the navigational equipment including their new
FAR-2X17 black-box radar, SC-50 GPS compass, autopilot, MaxSea chart
system and two 17 inch flat-screens.

In addition to the normal security equipment, the AP14000 is fitted
with a man overboard direction finder, a rescue crane and a separate
manoeuvring station on the aft deck, to facilitate fast and safe
salvage of a person from the water even under severe conditions.
