DOCKSTAVARVET Patrol Boats for the Polish Border Guard

During November 2007 DOCKSTAVARVET delivered the last of four units High Speed Patrol Boats to the Polish Border Guard. The boats are of DOCKSTA’s IC 16 M standard design and will form a vital part of EU’s Integrated Border Management Program in the Baltic Sea.

The order was signed in May 2006 and to meet the restricted time of delivery three hulls were subcontracted to Wisla Aluminium in Gdansk and then shipped to Sweden for final fitting out.

The IC 16 M is in all aluminium construction based on the well-known CB 90 H concept, now adapted for patrol operations. Dimensioning is according to Lloyd’s Register’s Special Service Craft Rules for Area G3. The aft positioned wheelhouse provides good crew comfort at high speed in open seas and excellent visibility around the horizon despite the low profile. The accommodation is arranged for a crew of 4 with one forward 4-berth cabin, galley, dinette, head and additional seating for 6 passengers. The Polish version is equipped for border control as well as search and rescue missions and built under survey of the Polish Register of Shipping

Power is provided by two SCANIA DI 16 diesel engines giving a total output of 1600hp and a sprint speed of 42 knots. The engines are driving two ROLLS-ROYCE FF410 waterjet units through ZF550 reduction gears and flexible shaft couplings.

Electrical installations are basically an alternator / battery supplied 24 V DC system wit separate battery banks for start and service loads. Battery charging when main engines are not running and aircondition / domnestic consumers are supplied from shore connection or a 7 kW ONAN diesel generator.

The boats are fitted with a FURUNO Navigation System based on the second generation FURUNO NAVnet VX-2 technology with M-1944C / GD-1920C Black Box radar / plotter system, SC-50 GPS compass, FAP-5002 Auto Pilot, combined with MAXSea chart plotting software. The system is tailor designed for high speed navigation and fitted for dual station operation with a separate multifunction MU-155C TFT display each for the Commanding Officer and the Helmsman. In addition the system is fitted with a sounder module and back-up GPS and rate sensor compass as well as a FA-150 AIS.

The SAR / Safety equipment includes a full GMDSS Area A2 installation plus a TAIYO VHF-Direction Finder and an UNI-SAFE RT 202 MOB-Direction Finder with 8 portable Transmitters. The boats are fitted with VIKING liferaft for 6+6+8 men and a 250 W remote controlled NORSELIGHT searchlight positioned near the mast top.
